On my way to the sheltered bazaar, I bumped into three Indian Muslim vendors selling deep-fry curry puffs and large-sized chillies. Fatty stuff, but it was delicious and yummy.
I am traveling to Southern Thailand (Hat Yai & Surat Thani) en route to Central Thailand (Bangkok). It's been a long, long time since I last traveled abroad.
I love visiting temples and also meeting strangers in a bazaar-like environment. So, I hope to explore the world's largest open air market Chatuchak (Jatujak) and the Thai Temples (Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Temple of Emerald Buddha & Erawan Shrine) in Thailand. I've gathered loads and loads of useful information about these places to be included in my future blog post. Thank you to fellow blogger mr. xplorer for sharing a place known as Damnoen Saduak floating market.
See you guys back on 9th September 2009.
HAPPY MERDEKA PEOPLE!!!!!!

I LOVE to EAT ketupat with rendang daging or satay. OOOH...YUMMY!
Ketupat is made from rice that has been wrapped in a woven palm leaf pouch which is then boiled. As the rice cooks, the grains expand to fill the pouch and the rice becomes compressed.

Title: Ramadan Dates

Camera: Nikon D60 with Aperture: f/5.3, ISO Equiv.: 250
You'll find loads of dates in this ramadan bazaar.
Traditionally, dates are known as the food Muhammad ate when he broke from his fast. During the period of Ramadan, when fasting lasts from sunrise to sunset, the body can develop mild health problems such as headaches, low blood sugar, and lethargy. To avoid such problems, one should carefully monitor their eating habits once fasting for the day has ended. Dates are an excellent source of fiber, sugar, magnesium, potassium, and have carbohydrates which will aid the body in maintaining health.

Title: Get Your Flowers Over Here

Camera: Nikon D60 with Aperture: f/4.5, ISO Equiv.: 900
These are fake flowers. You will never need water, fertilizers and sunlight to keep them fresh, yet they will always look like real flowers.
It's been awhile since my last street photography. The last outing was a simple photo coverage for Chinese New Year 2009. Today, I decided to pay a short visit to Ramadan Bazaar in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Masjid India - my first Ramadan Bazaar :) The day before, I came across a news article (TheStar paper) about the bazaar in Stadium Shah Alam. Initially, I wanted to drive all the way to that stadium to see for myself the wonderful bazaar.
But, I decided to try something else. I drove my car to Jalan Ipoh, Batu Lima and parked my car over there. From there, I flagged down a Selangor Bus and paid RM1 for a one way trip to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. The traffic from Jalan Chow Kit to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman was busy and jam all the way.
Business was slow and not picking up despite the one week school holidays. Very few people were browsing the bazaar. Traders were shouting aloud trying to attract customers. I was walking from one stall to another seeking photo opportunity. Along the way, I bumped into a group of uniformed DBKL officers patrolling the bazaar. I was looking at their tags and noticed three red coloured letters printed on it - ISA! HUH??? I scanned closely and discovered it was written as ISO - International Organization for Standardization. Ooooh...OK.
I was expecting to see a BIG RAMADAN BAZAAR with endless rows of traders selling raya goodies. A bit disappointed. But then again, it was a nice trip. The traders are friendly and courteous. Most of them invited me take their pictures. Soon after I snapped a portrait photo, nearby traders whispered "Besok keluar dalam akhbar Cina".
Happy fasting to all my Muslim friends.
OK, that's all for today. Remember to catch Part 2 for more pictures and travelogue. As usual, detailed information about location and maps are available in the last post.
