This silver coloured gate is a great protection against robbers. My parents house have similar gate - strangers will find it difficult to open this type of gate even though the lock is removed!
I've been traveling alone since late last year. I truly enjoyed my solo exploration to places of interest in Malaysia. Some people might say this is a lonely and boring one man trip. But to me, traveling alone is simply a BLISS! I have complete FREEDOM spending my time discovering places and taking photos.
Overall, Malacca is a great place to visit.
a) The people are NICE and COURTEOUS.
b) The Baba and Nyonya food is DELICIOUS.
c) The Malacca's ICE-CENDOL is SWEET & TASTY (thanks to Sharon!)
d) The buildings are UNIQUE.
e) Places of interests easily accesible by foot + lots of buses to move around different districts in Malacca. (thanks to Sharon!)
f) The guesthouse is COMFY and
g) Oh Yeah! I FEEL GOOD!
My next destination will be Perak, Malaysia.

Take the North-South Highway all the way down south.

There are no train routes to Melaka, best way is by bus/coach

These mouse deers are not shy at all. They are roaming freely in an extra large enclosure.
By mid-afternoon (Day 2 - Malacca Trip), it started to rain again. It was a gloom and cloudy afternoon - missed out opportunity to snap some nice and decent photos. But then again, I truly enjoyed my two hours trip exploring the second largest zoo in Malaysia.
Malacca Zoo has a HUGE collection of exotic animals - including the ever-elusive pygmy monkeys. These miniature monkeys are awesome! Small, adorable and hyperactive. It reminds me of those pesky creatures in the Gremlin movie :)
Another interesting attraction in the zoo are a group of large-sized adult fruit bats placed in an open enclosure. A pretty scary sight because these flying mammals seems to be aggressive and displayed their sharp teeth! I was worried sick whether these bats will get nutty and start a biting rampage in the enclosure! But, these are FRUIT BATS, so no worries.
Other than that, I nearly patted a big cutie tapir. I was standing so close to it! Well, it was a memorable trip to rediscover our treasured floras and faunas in their best environment.

A plant with lots of berry-like fruits (or seeds?)
I boarded a bus to Malacca's Zoo on Day 2 of my trip. It was a 45 minutes bus ride from Malacca's Sentral (main bus station). I've heard so much about Malacca's Zoo - the second largest zoo in Malaysia managed by Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN). Mat Sallehs (westerners) have written some really good reviews about the zoo. They were impressed with the zoo environment that closely resembled the animals' natural habitat.
Hmmm....that's something positive about Malaysia's Zoo. Normally, Mat Sallehs thrashed us like worthless earthlings; especially the way we handle animals in local zoo. Trust me...Mat Sallehs really hate and despise the way Malaysian treat animals in zoo. I was shocked to read some really critical comments posted on TripAdvisor website!
I paid RM7 for a single entry to the zoo and get myself a map cum brochure. Navigating the zoo is pretty easy. I spent less than two hours exploring the entire zoo. The zoo features a handsome collection of more than 1,200 animals from the world over - with more than 200 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
Overall, Malacca's Zoo is another not to be missed attraction. The zoo is a bit smaller than National Zoo. Nonetheless, the animals here are happier, healthier and friendlier compared to those caged in National Zoo.

This shop is OVER 100 YEARS! No joking! The master artisan is over 70++ years old!. This shop is full of amazing stone carvings. I'm totally blown away with these work of art!
