I started documenting the beauty of Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Putrajaya since November last year. As of December 2009, I've explored 30 places of interest in KL and 5 places in Putrajaya.
Kuala Lumpur, the capital city, IS Malaysia, and probably the greatest city in the world. There is so much to see here, so many places to visit, so many things to do. During my one year journey, I've discovered a melting pot of of different cultures with great food, amazing people and superb entertainment. No city invites the heart to come to life as KL does. Arrival in KL is an experience in living.
"What about Putrajaya?" you might ask. Well, I fall in LOVE with Putrajaya when I first I visited the place in October 2009. So far, I had made three trips back to Putrajaya. The majestic buildings blended perfectly with the green parks and garden. A well executed intelligent city that stands tall among the great.
During the last several weekends, I've managed to sort out all my photos according to theme and location. Believe it or not?! I've captured more than 3 500 pictures of KL and Putrajaya.

These pictures brought back loads of wonderful memories, joy and laughter. I remember the great time I had in KL and Putrajaya - meeting total strangers, chatting with them and sharing common interests.
Today (16th December 2009), it's been exactly one year since I started my solo exploration to discover the two cities. I like to share with you my pictures of KL and Putrajaya. This is a collection of the 35 best pieces from my photo blog, spanning 365 days of work. I captured all these using my Nikon D60 DSLR camera.
This 365 days project is not the end, but only the beginning. I'll continue to discover more hidden gems in these wonderful cities. Thank you and enjoy.

A white prang behind Hor Phra Monthian Dharma.
The Grand Palace พระบรมมหาราชวัง is indeed G.R.A.N.D in size. I nearly lost my way. There are 34 attractions in Grand Palace พระบรมมหาราชวัง. Thankfully, I was given an informative brochure with colourful plan of the palace. The best attractions are the golden bell-shaped Phra Siratana Chedi, two fierce looking temple guardians, a medium-sized model of Angkor Wat, Temple of Emerald Buddha or Wat Phra Kaew วัดพระแก้ว and the palace museum.
On your way out, remember to visit Wat Phra Kaew Museum located before the exit. This is a great place to learn everything about the architecture, artifacts and history of Grand Palace พระบรมมหาราชวัง. It has exclusive displays with informative descriptions. A small museum but the collections are simply impressive. It was the first time in my life spending time reading every little piece of info available.
Grand Palace พระบรมมหาราชวัง is the TOP 1 MUST-SEE places in Bangkok. Remember to start your journey early as you need one full morning or at least four hours to truly explore the entire place.

This gold chedi เจดีย์ looks like a gigantic ice cream bell. Chedi เจดีย์ is also known as stupa or pagoda.

This generally bell-shaped tower will usually contain a relic of the Buddha, but may also be built to contain the ashes of a king or important monk. Those who can afford it may also build smaller, typically square-shaped, ones for their own final resting place. The bell-shaped chedi เจดีย์ evolved during the golden age of Ayutthaya.

Look at the bracelet. Some 'jewels' were missing. Visitors has been stealing these tiny little 'stones' from Grand Palace. Actually, these shiny bling-bling are pieces of coloured glass...nothing else.

A towering warrior guarding Temple of Emerald Buddha วัดพระแก้ว also known as Wat Phra Kaew. His weapon look like a modified lightsaber :)

The Royal Pantheon was constructed during the reign of King Rama IV in 1855. He intended to place the Emerald Buddha here but the building was not completed until after his death. His successor, King Rama V, considered the building too small to accommodate the congregation at royal ceremonies so the Emerald Buddha was not placed in this building. A small gilt stupa belonging to King Rama IV was placed there instead.
The building is only open to the public on one day a year -- Chakri Day, which falls on 6 April every year.

The gabled Wiharn is decorated with flowery tiles and porcelain. Phra Wiharn Yod is part of the subsidiary buildings in Grand Palace พระบรมมหาราชวัง.

This area consists of three main buildings, namely the Audience Hall of Amarinda Winitchai, the Paisal Taksin Hall and the Chakraphat Phiman Hall.

Three of the eight Thai prangs (tower) visible from the Temple of Emerald Buddha วัดพระแก้ว. The “Eight Prangs” are of different colours. Each one is dedicated to a certain Buddhist concept, as follows:
White: The Buddha Sakayamuni
Purplish Blue: The Teaching of the Buddha
Pink: The Community of Buddhist Monks
Green : The Buddhist Female Monks
Purple: One who has attained nirvana but who is not able to preach the knowledge to men (P. pacceka-buddha)
Dark Blue: The Universal Monarchs
Red: The Buddha in his Former Lives
Yellow: The Buddha Maitreya, the Future Buddha
Grand Palace พระบรมมหาราชวัง - Getting There:
Getting to the Grand Palace พระบรมมหาราชวัง is quite easy by boat. Take the Chaophraya Express Boat to the Chang Pier (Tha Chang). Walk through the market around the pier and out onto the plaza flanked by old shop houses. The long white wall of the Grand Palace พระบรมมหาราชวัง is across the street on your right. You can't really miss it. The entrance is the second gate in the wall.
Grand Palace พระบรมมหาราชวัง - Opening Hours & Fares:
Ticket costs 350 THB each
The yellow part is for the Grand Palace and is valid only on the day of purchase. ( A guide book will be given to each visitor at the entrance to the temple.)
The blue part is for the Vimanmek Mansion Museum ( The world's largest golden teakwood mansion ) This part of the ticket is valid for 7 days from the day of purchase. The Vimanmek Mansion Museum is located at Suan Phuttan Garden on Ratchawithi Road in the Dusit District of Bangkok, and may be reached by bus number 70, departing from outside the Grand Palace, or by taxi. (Note : Entry to Vimanmek Museum will not be permitted without the blue part of the ticket, which may also be purchased separately, on a daily basis, at the museum for 100 Baht.)
The white ticket is for The Royal Thai Decoration and Coin Pavilion, which is on the right hand side before the entrance to the temple.
Open everyday from 8.30 a.m. to 16.30 p.m.

The distance from Hat Yai (Southern Thai) to Bangkok (Central Thai) is 748.19 km away. The journey seems to be ENDLESS! Finally, the train reached Bangkok Hua Lamphong หัวลำโพง Station by 10:30 a.m. (the next day). A BIG SIGHT OF RELIEF! I quickly flagged down a tuk-tuk and asked the driver to send me to Siam Oriental Inn in Khao San Road ถนนข้าวสาร. I booked a basic room in Siam Oriental Inn for 300 THB per night.
Khao San Road ถนนข้าวสาร is a backpacker haven. There were loads of cheap guest house over there. 'Mat Salleh' or farang ฝรั่ง were all over the place. At first, I was a bit worried. Crazy terrorist or even separatists might plant bombs or IEDs - Improvised Explosive Devices in one of the guest house or cafe. But my fears are completely unfounded. I felt safe seeing armed military and police personnel patrolling Khao San Road ถนนข้าวสาร.
Why do I choose to stay in Khao San Road ถนนข้าวสาร? Well, it is a strategic area. Places of interests such as Bangkok National Museum, Grand Palace and Wat Pho are located within walking distance.

One year in the blink of an eye.
Traveling and photography are the most rewarding and enriching experiences in my life. Seeing how life is lived helps me to become more tolerant. It really saddens me to see people who are still living below the national poverty line. They are poor but still happy. I’ve spent a net total of RM224 on my 2D/1N Cameron Highlands trip. It was meant to be a budget trip with a maximum allocation of RM200. But, I guess blowing an additional RM24 is no big deal. I cannot help myself trying out different kinds of food. I just have to taste them. My mom loves those green veggies I brought back from Cameron. She enjoyed eating the raw corns!
During this 2D 1N solo trip, I’ve explored BOH’s tea estate in Habu, reached 360° Viewpoint in Habu, climbed Mount Brinchang, visited aboriginal village, Sam Poh Buddhist Temple, Cactus Point, Veggie Farm, Highlands Strawberry Farm, Mountain Strawberry Park, day market and Brinchang night market. I preferred to explore these places UP, CLOSE & PERSONAL. It can be a tiring hike or even a long walk up to the plantation. But, I guess this is the best possible way to enjoy what nature has to offer.
If you’re seeking a relaxing trip with endless green, Cameron Highlands is the recommended place. Looking back, I treasured every single moment. My legs are itchy again. I’m leaving KL this Thursday. I’ll be exploring the mysterious Kellie’s Castle, discover Taiping, tasting Ipoh’s famous delicacies and more.

Mushroom park is a JOKER - NOTHING THERE. The two buildings that supposed to house these fungi were locked and left to rot. Hydroponic garden is way better. Local veggies such as chilies and cabbage are cultivated using hydroponic system.
Overall, Taman Pertanian Malaysia is still a MUST-SEE attraction. You'll need at least one full day to explore the entire park. It was a tiring trip but I enjoyed every single moment.
